CIY Updates

Summer Event Status Tracker

Release Date: 3/2/2021

We're pumped for summer 2021! We know your students are ready for it, and we can't wait to create lasting memories together. And we also know your ministry needs the catalyzing moments that a summer event creates. There are plenty of unknowns, but we're confident that this summer, like so many other things over the last year, will be unforgettable.

As you plan your summer, we want to help you make the best decisions for your ministry. Introducing the Event Status Tracker – your spot for the current status of every CIY summer 2021 event, updated every Tuesday this Spring.

Each event will be labeled:

Green Light - Current conditions meet criteria for holding the event.

Yellow Light - Conditions would currently prevent the event from being held.

Red Light - Due to vicinity, venue, or viability factors, this event has been canceled.

You'll also see a column called "Confirm Date" for each event. Right now those are empty, but our team will be filling them in over the next few weeks. On this date, events will lock either green or red. An event will not turn red unless it's canceled.

We know that God has big things in store this summer. We're honored that we get to play a small part in those plans, and we'd love to partner with you to call your students to use their talents, gifts, and abilities to further the Kingdom of God. If you have any questions about our summer events, please let us know!

2021 MIX and MOVE COVID-19 Event Safety

Release Date: 1/25/2021

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, Christ In Youth is committed to offering events that inspire Kingdom work while prioritizing the health and safety of those in attendance. Many of the specifics related to the summer of 2021 are not yet known, but CIY is working with venue partners across the country to plan events with appropriate measures in place to create a safe environment. Additional details about plans for 2021 will be released in the coming months as more specific information is available. A few of the things that are known at this time are as follows:

  • CIY will follow local, state, and federal guidelines related to events and the various aspects of the event environment (housing, dining, etc.).
  • CIY is working with venue partners to enhance cleaning & sanitation procedures.
  • CIY will adjust schedules, seating, housing, etc. to provide appropriate spacing based on current local conditions & guidelines.
  • CIY will require pre-event and daily health screenings in order to quickly identify & isolate potential positive cases.

In addition to the items listed above, some measures currently considered to be best practices and likely to be implemented based on current conditions are:

  • Face Coverings
    • In all indoor spaces where groups are gathering
    • Outdoors in areas where social distancing cannot be maintained
  • Social Distancing
    • Auditorium seating adjustments and/or duplication of sessions
    • Additional meal shifts in cafeterias
  • Cohorts
    • Organization of youth groups into cohorts to help limit exposure risk and assist with contact tracing should exposure occur
  • Cleaning & Sanitization
    • Increased sanitization and cleaning schedules in all occupied buildings
    • Sanitizing stations in/near auditorium, cafeteria, and other regularly used buildings
  • Daily Screening for Staff & Attendees
    • Temperature checks
    • Symptom related questionnaire
  • Testing & Isolation
    • Access to rapid testing for symptomatic individuals
    • Designated isolation locations during testing
  • No contact or reduced contact recreation options with increased sanitization for contact equipment

CIY regularly monitors the CDC website as well as state government information in regions where events are scheduled and will continue to adjust plans accordingly. The hope is that by the time summer 2021 arrives, the need for these measures is limited. However, the safety of attendees, staff, and speakers is incredibly important, and CIY will take necessary precautions to prioritize the health and wellbeing of guests at events.

Important Update about 2021 SuperStart and Believe Tours

Release Date: 8/18/2020

Thank you for your support of Christ In Youth and your unwavering belief that Kingdom work never stops. Youth pastors and church leaders have demonstrated incredible grit over the last few months. We know you are planning and re-planning for the upcoming school year, and we want you to be aware of an adjustment to the CIY calendar.

Today we are announcing the suspension of the Winter/Spring 2021 SuperStart and Believe tours.

Since May, our team has been using three questions to guide nearly every decision: Is it safe? Is it possible? Is it wise? In full transparency, here are our answers to those questions regarding Winter/Spring 2021 events:

Is it safe? With the information available to us right now, we do not believe it is safe to hold large gatherings of 1,000+ students.

Is it possible? Honestly, we don’t know. Communities are battling the pandemic at different intensities and local guidelines change week to week. What is possible this week could become unfathomable next week.

Is it wise? After a lot of prayers and strategizing, we determined that we can’t responsibly invest hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars into preparing these events.

Hear from Jayson French, CIY's President, for more on this decision:

It’s not a perfect decision, but based on the information we have today, we believe this is the best possible decision for your church and CIY. We would love nothing more than to hang out with your preteens and junior highers and watch the Holy Spirit work. We’re sad we won’t get to witness His work in your students firsthand, but we’re confident that good things are in store for your ministry this year.

We expect that we will return to large gatherings in the future and are planning to hold on-site MOVE and MIX events in the summer of 2021.

In the meantime, we are deploying our creative teams to build products that meet the needs of youth ministries 365 days a year, no matter what restrictions might be in place. We can’t wait to tell you about what we’re working on very soon.

Be sure to join the CIY Community on Facebook to stay up to date with the newest release.

It is not the year we planned, but we believe God is still at work through His church. CIY will continue to be here for you, even if we can’t meet you in person. Keep up the good work. It counts.
