If you’ve ever seen the MIX conference you know it’s just wild to be in the room with close to a thousand kids doing the same dance or lifting up the same song with so much energy. From the stage it looks like a sea of people doing exactly what they love, and this year our Amp Up song is “Church Clap” by KB. It’s not a new song, but this is the first year I’ve seen the dance, and what’s cool is you see students teaching it to others during their free time. Every time we return to the stage, more and more know it and they get better and better as the week goes on.
I wish adults would do this. Find something fun to do in worship – something we can all do that unites us – because for middle schoolers, this is a huge sense of community.
I see worship shift in a big way especially later in the week, and I know it’s coming because it’s what I experienced as a student at MOVE. I went to MOVE three times, and my life changed at each and every one because of the music and what I experienced in those moments. I can’t believe I’m on the other side of the conference now as a leader, but God keeps pouring into me with these conferences.
I love the way middle schoolers put their arms around each other when they’re worshiping. I don’t know when we lose that, but it’s a huge lesson for adults. I think it’s the most beautiful picture of the Church.
